air command doesn't decide what elements to send on a mission, the pm does. air command doesn't decide when to increase troop support, the pm does. the pm isn't going to spend billions of dollars to send air support to afghanistan when we'll be out of there soon.
yes the brits do. now that we have multi country missions, each country tends to be responsible for a single part of the mission.
and what would we shoot at? the little ant-sized guerillas? haven't seen too many taliban tanks in afghanistan.

Air Command can't seem to do too much really. Why have it?

Maybe we'll go the way of New Zealand and turn our Air Command into a high priced taxi service for the Army.

Fast fighters are becoming more and more rare with each new type of fighter.

Soon Air Command won't have much in the way of combat capability left if things continue as they have for the past few decades.

that's pretty much all it is right now. we've got a few combat jets, but mostly it's transport and search and rescue. although helicopters seem to be gaining in use. with such a small budget, it's probably better to provide just a taxi service and SR.

Well, nobody can blame anyone besides Air Commands leadership.
Afghanistan should have been a showcase for intergrated Ops.
Air Command could have been the heroes that saved our guys under Taleban fire.
But the CF18s stayed in Bagotville.

Sad. And you have the crest of a real airforce on your avatar.

i still don't see how you blame the airforce. they can't disobey the pm and deploy where/when they want.

I think "a few" isn't an accurate description of how many cf 18's we have.

If thats the case perhaps we should just give the Aurora's and Sea Things to the Navy and the rest to the Army.

We could scrap Air Command and its fast jets... good idea?

We have less than we need in any case.

well, you could. but that would mean expanding the navy and/or army. you still need most of the infrastructure and crews the airforce has currently.

i'm not sure what you mean brock, that's the canadian airforce crest.

We don't have an airforce. We have a command.

We have the capabilty to deploy but we don't.

I agree with some of the other posters. Why have squadrons of CF18's that do nothing?
They can't even support our troops.

Even 'Tim Hortons' managed to get to Khandahar.
Are you saying Air Command has less ability to do it's job in Afghanistan than a coffee shop franchise?

And don't give me the "We have Air Command supply techs at Khandahar" cop out.
We have pongoes dying while our 80 plus CF18s do sweet FA.

I was being sarcastic, I don't believe it is a remotely desirable course of action.
