Just because I am 18, doesn't make you any more informed about the world then I am.

Actually, about 99.99999999999999% of the time it does. If you are only 18 now then when Bush came to power you were the ripe old age of 10 or 11 with all the worldly knowledge that comes from being 10 or 11. At 18 you would barely have any real world experience other than what has been shoved down your throat by your high school teachers.

Trust me I know what it was like being a know-it-all teenager, I used to be one. Then I grew up, joined the workforce, married and raised a family. Most of what I 'knew' at 18 about world affairs and politics was quickly revealed to be next to nothing. 8)

Right, I am sure 10-11 year olds and 18 year olds does not have access to information aka the internet . Also I am sure they don't know how to read, or ask questions. I am also sure that they are blind, so they won't be-able to view anything.

Your logic is outstanding mate, just because you diddn't know anything as you were at that age. Doesn't mean everybody else had the same experience. Kind of stupid that you put your experiences, and try and make it everybody else's.

Also 99.99999999999999% of the time? Rofl, and where did you get that statistic from? May I see the source of that (Unless of course you just assumed that ).

10-11 year olds are already starting to become professional hackers, even some who are good enough to hack into some buisness's. Apparently they are incapable of reading a article, or researching something going on with the world but able to do that? You guys really need to give kids a break, and stop pulling fake statistic and bullshit out of your ass's.

I would like to extend to you a invention I like to call 'the internet'. The main source of information. Let's say I am 10-11 years old, and I don't know how to read yet and write. So I won't be-able to read anything going on with the world. When that person turns 18 and can write and read, he can access to same information you can and read the same things you can. Even things that happened when he was 10 or 11 to current things. What you are basicly saying is, people can't read or write, or research anything as good as you just because they are not as old as you. If you actually knew anything about that, you would know that there are 10 and 14 year olds who were so smart that they skipped all the way into college or university and were still smarter then most of there class mates (Last one I saw was of a chinese boy).

Those kids will probally grow up to be the next smartest person, kids now are already being proven to be smarter then there parents. Obviously age doesn't define intelligence or the ability to research things.

Wow just a little defensive there little fella. You sound like all the other know-it-all 18 year old kids I train every day. Tried to give you some friendly advice and you went on a little boy rant. Feel free to run along now Junior and tell mommy some bad man on the internet said you weren't as "special" as mommy said you were.

By the way read the bold parts of your post I highlighted.
Highlight 1- Don't believe everything you read on the internet, it's not all factual.
Highlight 2- A growing majority of young people can't read or write at the level they need to survive post-education. More and more universities are offering courses on very basic reading and writing skills for those who don't meet the standard.
Highlight 3 - While I agree that hacking requires brains, it seldom translates to being a "productive" member of society.
Highlight 4 - If you mean, educate children yes. If you mean give them a pass because failing hurts their self esteem fuck no!

Try to be nice to young kids today and the respond with scorn and bad attitude, just like you did.

Defensive? Not at all, just "giving you some friendly advice".
Also, wouldn't it be proper to be defense seeing how you are being offensive by attacking kids, just because they are young?

"Don't believe everything you read on the internet, it's not all factual."
1. Wouldn't that mean I shouldn't believe what you say? or consider your advice? or does that apply to everything except you?

2. There is a lot of BS on the internet, but the internet is the best way to get information as there is no real way to censor information on the internet as you can do with television, also television has a lot more BS news they you will find on the internet. You get every single bit of information you could ever want on the internet, only problem is to filter it and pick out the ones that is strongly backed up and well searched to be considered as the 'trueth'.

"Highlight 2- A growing majority of young people can't read or write at the level they need to survive post-education. More and more universities are offering courses on very basic reading and writing skills for those who don't meet the standard."

My 9 year old cousin knows how to read and write... are you talking about proper grammar? Such as using . and ,'s and forming sentences? You don't need to know proper grammar to know how to read a article.

"Highlight 3 - While I agree that hacking requires brains, it seldom translates to being a "productive" member of society."

I know its not being a productive member of society, that was not part of my point. My point was that hacking is the most hardest thing you can do with a computer, besides coding. If a kid that age can hack, which in a lot of cases requires coding if not most cases. Then obviously kids of that age can figure out how to work the internet and research things.

"Try to be nice to young kids today and the respond with scorn and bad attitude, just like you did."

Right, you were very nice indeed. Stating false statistics, telling me that a 18 year old adult cannot read, write or doesn't have the brains to be-able to research things. Also correct me if I am wrong, judging by the next quote I will copy and pasting below, aren't you being a little bit of a hypocrite there buddy? You don't see me here telling you to go die of old age, or telling you the nurse at your home wants you go to take your pills and take a nap now do you? Nope, you don't.

"Feel free to run along now Junior and tell mommy some bad man on the internet said you weren't as "special" as mommy said you were. "

Those kids will probally grow up to be the next smartest person, kids now are already being proven to be smarter then there parents. Obviously age doesn't define intelligence or the ability to research things.

I missed this because of an edit by yourself.

Let's try this again. Reading something at 18 and understanding it can and usually are two different things.

Reference kids being smarter than their parents, more educated yes. Smarter, not neccassarily. You will have more knowledge of computers having been raised in an era when everyone and their dog has a home computer, I wasn't but I am trying to learn.

As for the 10-14 year old kids in university, yes it happens and is an incredible anomoly. A good portion of these kids though don't have the emotional maturity to do anything with said education until they are much older. Usually about the time the average kid finishes his education.

The point your missing is young people don't have the emotional maturity that someone has that's twice your age. Even if you don't like it I have an advantage over you, I've been 18 before and know what it's like to be in school and deal with all the pressures of getting into college or university. You have never been retired at 44, married and raised two boys, one of which is your age and one who is two years older.

Read my first post to you again. I wasn't insulting you or calling you a moron. I was trying to get you to understand the world isn't as black and white as you see it.

I know that, but answer this for me.

1. What does maturity have to do with being-able to research articles properly, and finding out information or the ability to read and write? Which is the bases of this arguement?

2. Obviously kids won't be as mature as there parents, but that doesn't mean that all kids are not mature. I am a gamer, and have met a lot of really mature kids. Kids who were even more mature then most average adults.

I am 18 though, I think I have had the experience enough to function maturity wise passed a 10-11 year old...

"Read my first post to you again. I wasn't insulting you or calling you a moron. I was trying to get you to understand the world isn't as black and white as you see it."

If that is true, then I am sorry for adding a little negativity to my other post. Though for the white and black bit, I know it isn't always white and black but that doesn't mean bad things don't happen. It's really not a stretch to assume something bad, as you commonly find a lot more bad news then you would ever find good news.

You obviously missed the tongue in cheek approach. A growing number of young people can't read or write at their grade level is not an insult it is stating a growing problem in our education system. If you didn't realise that the statistic was used as an exageration you prove my point about emotional maturity.

R=UP

Somehow reading about Bush II, or Bush I, or Regan, or Gerald Ford (...) is equivalent to living through the experience. We were all 18 at one time, (some still are) and the life experience is similar, we've learnt enough to know we didn't know anything we thought we did. We thought reading a book is somehow the same thing.

It isn't.

You can't read the "Coles Notes" version of Shakespeares' Hamlet, and expect it to resemble seeing Sir Richard Attenbourough or Christopher Plummer performing on stage. You also can't read about Vietnam or any other subject and get the full experience; the daily news broadcasts or articles in the paper. There is just no way to get the full picture in the time alloted.

Having the information and knowing what to do with it will differ according to the level of maturity. Young people are "generally" more emotional, and less disiplined. They tend to have an all or nothing viewpoint which clouds their interpretation of various subjects.
