Fuck it, I've changed my stance on this, CBC should be privatised.

Why so it can rip you off even more?

Tell us again why everyone out in the boonies should have to PAY to watch the news, but you shouldn't.

I live in the boonies, my coat hanger works fine.

Wont you need a converter when they go digital?

Even better, I'll challenge you to provide even one that did. You pay less for a case of beer? Bullshit.

I already did..Alberta's privatization of the Liquor monopoly. I don't play less for beer, but that's because the LCBO is alive and well in Ontario. Nice dodging tactic though.

And you're talking dodge? Nice try!

And yeah, let's talk digital. Like the big rush of Cdn private networks to go digital. It ain't happening. CBC is. CTV has one feed.
Wanna keep dodging the issue? Well here's one - the sats were supposed to supply CBC in the clear. They didn't. You PAY them for programs they get free. THAT'S PRIVATIZATION. You pay the money for CBC and pay again so Bell & Starchoice can stuff money in their pocket.
What are you all, stupid? Or just so ideologically butt-stubborn you wanna cut off your nose to spite your face?
Dreaming that you're somehow gonna gain something by giving away CBC and then dragging liquor privatization into the argument? Yeah we'll "save" nothing and then give up a shitload of gov't revenue and then everything will be cheaper and better.

It always blows me away hearing people without the money or means defend to the death the right of some other rich bastard to gain and imagine they will get some benefit. Talk to me when you got $5 billion to actually deliver a broadcast alternative or even the cojones to put your money where your mouth is and run a liquor store for 16 hours a day.
Until the don't waste your breath selling Canadians the American Dream cuz you can't even sell it down there, they're starting to wake up!

Privatization is the way to go.
Better service and selection no matter what it is.
Competition does that for a bussiness.

Not at all. I gave an example, as you asked. Are you asking for others now?

You're off on a mad tirade now. Take a deep breath and compose yourself. My reason for wanting to dump the CBC (and virtually every other crown corporation) is a philosophical one. IT'S NOT THE BUSINESS OF GOVERNMENT TO BE IN BUSINESS . I WANT to pay for my television service. I have no desire to run a liquor store, but you can bet your ass that folks'd be lining up for the franchises if they privatized them in Ontario. I don't care if Liquor Stores are profitable for the government or not. The government's role is not to make a profit. It's role is to govern. I WANT the government's revenues to fall, in business income, in taxes, in ALL ways.

The Canadian Radio-television and Telecommunications Commission (CRTC) in May announced analog over-the-air broadcasts will be shut off and replaced by digital on Aug. 31, 2011. Unlike the United States, however, Canadian regulators have not indicated what the freed-up airwaves will be used for, but a similar auction is expected.

When the shutdown happens, people picking up free channels such as the CBC will need to either buy new televisions that are compatible with the digital signals or install set-top box converters, which now cost about $200. About 10 per cent of Canadian households still use rabbit-ear antennae, according to the CRTC.

DoyleG DoyleG:
CBC assets that I can think off the top of my head....

CBC Television
CBC Newsworld
Radio-Canada
RCI (French-language Newsworld)
CBC Radio One
CBC Radio Two
Radio Canada International (Overseas Service)
CBC Galaxie
CBC Bold (Digital Channel, formerly CBC Country Canada)
CBC SportsPlus (Sports Channel, approved but not launched)

I do not know if I would call the last three assets. :D
