mtpockets mtpockets:
ziggy ziggy:
He thinks we just send them home when were done with them.

They come on their own and leave on their own,it's not like anyone's holding a gun to their heads.

Yet he claims they would rather be working in their home province, well, what's holding you back mr mtpockets?

The system is designed to keep parts of this country down and other parts living the high life. That's a fact.

I think you better try explain that theory a bit better.
Anyplace Ive worked they dont care where the employees come from, they just want workers, there is no conspiracy to keep the east broke, you guys do that all on your own just fine so if your trying to blame the ROC for your ills then you fail big time.

RUEZ RUEZ:
mtpockets mtpockets:
Talk to me in a year when the Olympics are done and your forestry industry is in the toilet.

It's in the toilet now. We've lost thousands of jobs and are still less then half your unemployment. I guess diversification is a smart thing to do. You can't rely on fish and oil for ever.

There is massive support in BC for what went down with Abitibi. Ask anyone from Kitimat where Alcan got a sweetheart deal for cheap Hydro to produce aluminum and fucked up the entire ecology of Central BC. They can now sell that power and make more money than making aluminum. The town has lost every case, plant expansion is stalled and even more power is being sold.
Timber cutting rights were given out with appurtenance clauses, that a percentage of wood cut would be milled locally. No longer. One by one, the small mills are being sold for a profit and closed. The wood is being shipped out to a few supermills in the province and the previous owners are reaping rewards for selling those rights and screwing small towns over. Corporate concentration is the word, we're down to four or five big companies now. Even the Forest Minister has stated that this is a result of Liberal policies, but not an intent.
This has resulted here in over a half dozen high profile BC Liberal/federal CPC backers showing up at Stand Up For The North meetings and proposing some pretty unexpected (for them) resolutions. For example: As the timber rights were granted under terms of appurtenance, if a mill closes those rights should revert to the closest 'Community Forest'.
Which doesn't help all that much, as when the mills are gone the 'Community Forest' only has those out-of-town supermills to sell to!

Yeah Brenda, isn't it fun? I love it when the discriminating wingnuts come out of the woodwork. Look at them slobbering all over their keyboards trying to outdo each other with their condescending BS.

Certainly cases can be made for taking back resources. I'm well aware of Alcan and what they did to the Nechako, I grew up in Vanderhoof and lived through Kemano 2. However the workers at Abitibi signed their own pink slips when they refused to make concessions. The mill closed because it was unprofitable. Punishing them for that seems petty.

If I were to crack open the Newfoundland Act and break it down piece by piece you would see clearly how NL has been continuously shafted by our great Dominion of Canada. But I'll leave that research in your court. It's there for you to peruse if you so desire. Unfortunately, you are blinded by your western vision of Canada so I won't expect a response anytime soon.
One of the great plans that gets my goat is one where Canada had planned to raze Newfoundland during WWII if Nazi Germany ever got a foothold on the island. Such brotherly love from our brethern upalong. Roast em!

You made the claim, you post the info.
I'm not your researcher.

You have no clue as to my vision of Canada, none whatsoever.

Don't misinterpret my ranting as whining Ziggy. I'm not the only Newfoundlander who holds this position. Your work buddies are all smiles for you on the outside but inside they are seething. I just happen to tell it like it is. Get over it.

Your use of the term 'newf' gives you away as a discriminating wingnut.

Just admit it mtpockets, your jelous of the west.
It's the only reasonable explanation I can think of for you to bring out something that didnt happen in ww2 but yet you feel someone owes you something?

Well, were a tad short on money for handouts bud,the best we can do is offer you folks some jobs.

I admit nothing of the sort. All the power to the west Ziggy. They deserve every rung on the ladder to success. Just don't do it on the backs of the east coast. (and now the immigrants as well).

This is not about owing us something. This is about pride and dignity and a place in our great nation. 60 years of BS has left us a bit jaded.

Do your friends from the east coast laugh when you tell your condescending Newfie jokes? If they do, they are traitors and a blight on our good name. A true Newfoundlander would toss the ingrate out on his sorry ass.
