You think were going to run a deficit in the next two years? Just wait till you see the final bill for the Olympics and the deficits we run then. You ain't seen nothin yet.

Wht are you talking about, the olympics costs have already been budgeted and for the most par taid for, with the 2009 and 2010 budgets already calculated, and contributing to the current deficit as it is. Only way it is going to get any worse now is if the world economy gets worse. if anything the Olympis should now help put money back into the province as the world economy slumps.

They havent even come up with the final figures of the olympics. It was just reported that the security is going to be considerably more than planned for.

Did you honsetly believe the initial 178 million figure?
And of the 1 billion, an awefull lot of that is going to be military, which should come from the feds.

I dont believe anything that comes out of the BC liberals mouth, anyone who does needs to give their heads a shake.
But that is regardless of the point...you stated the olympics has been budgeted for...I pointed out that the final bill is going to be larger than what was originally projected, in other words it hasnt been. They havent been truthful with the people of BC since day one.

Just because Montreal sucked, doesn't mean Vancouver will too. How about Calgary, you never hear that being brought up for some reason.
It's going to be spectacular and the longterm benefits will make all the current angst seem silly. Just like Expo 86.

Expo 86 was brutal...rents increased, people kicked out of their homes for tourists to rent.
The Government, both the provincial and previous municipal, have been undermining and lying to the people the whole time, They havent been truthful about the amount of money being spent since day one.
Calgary needed the Olympics to put them on the World map, we are already there in the eyes of the world. Also, the cost of land in Calgary was next to nothing in comparison to Vancouver. Not to take away from Calgary, but Vancouver has to live up to what its touted on the world stage...and that costs...Calgary didnt.

Like my developed distrust in “Steve”, I’ve lost all faith in the Liberals in BC. And for the uninformed, the BC Liberals are a genetic clone of the Federal Conservatives. They’re Liberal in name only. In the past few years they’ve become so autocratic and deceptive there’s nothing coming out of Victoria that can be taken at face value. Unfortunately though it’s them or the NDP. In government I’m not sure they’re really all that different, but Carol James just can’t seem to get it together.
Bottom line, it won’t matter who’s running the show, we’re going to be seeing deficits big time.

$1: Calgary needed the Olympics to put them on the World map, we are already there in the eyes of the world. $1: Also, the cost of land in Calgary was next to nothing in comparison to Vancouver. Not to take away from Calgary, but Vancouver has to live up to what its touted on the world stage...and that costs...Calgary didnt. 20 years makes a big diff...Calgary Olympics was built mostly on existing facilities , the U of C, COP and the Saddledome etc. Canmore and Nakiska were the only two major new developments..Nakiska was a big waste of money. Revenues exceeded the expenditures = big success.

I thought pretty much every government in the world was going to run deficits in the near future. Even Alberta might, depending on oil/gas prices.
