However, McGuinty rejected the Progressive Conservatives' demand for a legislated pay freeze for public sector workers, saying he has built up goodwill with unions and will continue to show them respect at the bargaining table.

The man never had the spine to take on the unions. Why would he grow one now?

Why give in to them for 8 years, tons of raises and cash and now decide to be fiscally responsible?

Well it's too late now, and even know knowing the shit we are in, he wouldn't dare freeze their pay, much less cut it.

I smell a tax hike. He may deny it, but he's lied to Ontarians on subject of taxes twice before.

His track record greatly concerns me.

Worst premiere ever. Nothing but a lying sack of shit who sucked up to the public sector unions more than any other premiere of any party. He's a good reason I'm seriously thinking of heading back west when I finally pack in the military. PDT_Armataz_01_35

Maybe he's hoping to qualify as a future leader of the Liberal party of Canada. if they really want to save money they need to do a hiring freeze, initiate some buy outs, freeze entry level salaries and cut the pay of senior(middle management and up who have ridiculously high pay) civil servants. More gain with less pain.

This is what Stevie has to do in Ottawa as well. He's supposed to offer an approach that differs from the NDP, not trry and outspend them on the pay of bureaucrats. They can also start rolling back the pay of MPs and start eliminating the full pensions after a handful of years in Ottawa. Twenty years of sevice in the House I might agree with, but UNDER, they get what they paid into it if they lose their seat.

Ya know, it was so cold out the other day, I actually saw McGuinty with his hands in his own pockets for a change.

I think you are right on that, he is more elected by default than by intention.

The political momentum in ON does seem to swinging to the right and it will be interesting to see what happens here. As far as clamping down on Public service unions I think he could get public support on that he may not have been able to get a few years ago.

I am thinking here that Rob Ford getting elected mayor of Toronto, the York County transit strike and the PC surge in the last election have created a different political atmosphere which might send McGuinty on a witch hunt that the public would support.
