Roughly half of the guns fuelling a gang war in British Columbia's Lower Mainland come from the United States, RCMP say, highlighting the difficult challenge of stopping the flow of weapons into Canada.

    A gun registry might help.

Making them illegal would be even better. Drugs are illegal and we have no problem with them either.

You misunderstand. I don't believe in gun bans at all. In fact I make this point because too many people ignore the reality that just as gun bans will not end gun crimes so too does drugs being illegal not prevent drug crimes.

The freedom to choose is as important with what we put in our bodies as much as our right to have items of self defence.

Most illicit streets drugs have no practical use. A rifle has many uses other then crime.

Does caffeine have a practical use? How about alcohol or tobacco?

Science tells us that an apple is better at waking us up then coffee so that eliminates the argument that caffeine gets us up and mobile.

Pot is now used medicinally and can be used by all chronic pain sufferers also.

Most gun bans are concerned about hand guns used in crime rather then hunting rifles but legal wording makes the distinction difficult.

To me its about freedom of choice. I support many things I don't personally do. I don't own a gun yet support gun rights. I cannot carry a child yet support the right to choose for women.

Why gun rights advocates don't see this I cannot understand.

I thought we were talking about guns? I'm sure we could name many legal things that don't serve a purpose other then pleasure.

We were indeed. You said: "Most illicit streets drugs have no practical use. A rifle has many uses other then crime."

You were wrong and that response demanded clarification.

I'm glad we could correct you.

Yes I did. Gun advocates claim that good gun owners aren't responsible for bad ones. The same applies to drugs.

Freedom. Its a not just a word it should be a right for everybody.

I'm ok with going back to the way it was before the registry, but everybody being able to pack heat. No way! Too much, too often in a split second of anger' and there's no going back!
