California electric-car upstart Tesla Motors Inc. said today it has started taking orders for its Tesla Roadster from Canadian customers willing to pay the hotrod's luxurious price tag.
Oh wait...this simply could not be true as many posters here have stated high tech vehicles are the domain of Japan and Europe YET Tesla Motors is a NA auto manufacturer...!!!!
I think its funny how everyone thinks this is the enviromental choice, if your city is powered by a coal plant your actually throwing more carbon in the air.

They'll have to pay somewhere around $120,000, though, and half of that must come up front as a $60,000 (U.S.) deposit. In return, they'll get the first highway-capable electric car produced and sold in North America.
On March 26, Tesla's four-door sedan, the Model S, will be unveiled. It's expected to sell at a base price of $57,400 (U.S.) and will be available for sale in the second half of 2011.
This is a statement vehicle with limited appeal. The performance of a Porsche or Ferrari with none of the brand prestige.
"The Tesla Roadster competes with any sports car in its class for acceleration yet is twice as energy efficient as a Toyota Prius," the company said.
Range of between 170 to 267 miles (according to the website). So you can drive on the highway for two hours before you have to make the decision to turn back or stop for 3.5 hours for a recharge. Expected battery life of 100,000 miles or 5 years (according to the website). Which means if you try and sell the vehicle in 5 years and haven't changed the battery pack out no one will buy the car. I wish them well but I wouldn't invest in the company.

Environmentalists have to understand that. The technology is NOT READY yet. You can't enforce someone to build something for a higher price with a decreased reliability. Where I disagree with you here is about is since it's a whole new technology than gas engine, doing 160,000km on the central part of the vehicule without changing it is not that bad. Think of everything else you have to change in a gas engine car before reaching that. Also, I think it would be a good thing to invest in those compagnies right now since, want it or not, this is going to be there sometimes when the technology gets more reliable.
