An examination by The Canadian Press reveals ad budgets geared to promoting economic success have ballooned under the Conservatives since the 2008 global downturn.
    ...
Average annual ad spending by Human Resources and Skills Development Canada, or HRSDC, was up 72 per cent in the four years following the 2008 recession, compared to the five years that preceded it.

Spending by the Finance Department was up 58 per cent, while advertising by the Canada Revenue Agency almost tripled.

In these tough times, you have to do what you can to stimulate the economy (in the advertising sector).

He who controls the advertising dollars, gets to tell the media what to do.

    Such a tired act, Curtman.

If the government didn't spent the money to advertise you'd be crying the blues about how all these people could have jobs and money to pump back into the economy with all these advertising programs, etc.

Pointing out you behaviour here is a public service, OTI. I sense a foot stamping, some outrage, and a return to your wonderful life soon.

Naw. You're simply an inconsequential side show from work, gym, writing, marketing, dog walking, child raising, and spending time with wife.

Honestly, buddy, you really are nothing more than that, irrespective of how much you wish you were more.

Perhaps one day, I can aspire to be like you and spend all day on an internet forum professing my superiority to others and making fun of others who have a social life beyond anonymous internet arguments.

Just fun pokin' at ya Gunny, you take this stuff so seriously.

    14 hours, 45 minutes left....

As long as the money is spent here in Canada, paying Canadians to work, who cares?

I get that some people might see it as propaganda or a tool for influencing Canadians, but it's no different than what any other previous government has done.

IMHO, it's basically just stimulus spending.

The latter part was argued to be true in the case of AdScam so it's only fair to apply the same standard to Conservatives as was applied to the Liberals.

Really? You support govt selling itself to you? Were you as happy when the Libs did it? (Hint, here's the out for you, you can always claim the Libs did it too.) The socialists in BC want to severely restrict govt advertising, as apparently the Libs in Ont already do. They have some sort of advertising commissioner who vets the ads to make sure they are not political. Good idea.

Yes, I do and they always have and should do so.

We need to know the government is working and doing things as we all know, the general population won't look for what's new or what's available to them, they only know about programs and such when it's advertised to them.

It's a part of how government does business and it's putting money and people to work at the same time.

Informational advertising is one thing, but so much of it is blatantly just promoting the govt. You'll know an informational ad because it will just have facts and figures. I don't see many of those around. In Ontario, apparently, no MLA or whatever you call them there can appear in the ad. That's a good idea. Or are you saying that you Ontarians are bereft of govt information?
