Like I said, Whisperin Byron was a scary dude, but it's hard to make broad sweeping decisions based on his case alone, because there are also cases like this one from last week concerning another home invader who chose the wrong house.

Those kids chose the wrong road to go down. And they ran into the wrong dragon to annoy. I hate defending anyone so cold blooded, but this is all on those two dummies. They deliberately chose the wrong thing to do, met someone a lot worse than they were, and paid a horrible price for their bad decision making. Leave Byron Smith alone to his own devices and in a few years he dies unnoticed and the cops go into his house and marvel at his collection of weapons and stockpiled ammunition. Raise his ire and end up in the morgue.

Sorry, but I just can't feel sorry for criminals, not when their own choices lead them to a bad end. They failed at being good citizens of a society long before they encountered Byron Smith.

Some mistakes are lethal. Don't drive drunk and you don't end up flying through the windshield and smashing your head open against the telephone pole you crash into. Don't be a druggie criminal and do housebreaking to feed your habit because eventually you're going to run into someone who isn't going to run away from you and let you violate his home.

Basic common sense actually. Don't act like a jerk and you won't get nailed.

The way this case is spoken about in the media, you'd think the two felons simply took a wrong turn and mistakenly walked through one of his windows and somehow fell in his basement.

The shooter needs to spend the rest of his life in prison, no doubt. But don't tell me the two cousins were innocent victims, they were a couple of budding career criminals and this wasn't their first B&E. One of them reportedly had hit Smith's house at least once before.

Thanos is right in that they simply ran up against someone not only nastier but someone with job skills that would make him the bane of any common crook. If the guy could do embassy security, defending a home in suburbia would be child's play.

First lesson, stay the Fuck out of people's homes and you won't get shot.
