"If we start losing them at this point, were losing the future. Its a tragedy, its a human tragedy and its an institutional tragedy and, I suppose its not pushing it to say, its a national tragedy."

    Drama queen.

CBC is a television and radio network, not some jewel in the Canadian crown or an object of necessity.

To put this horrific loss in perspective, 8O I'm sure the people who cleaned the horse crap off the streets of Toronto back in the day would have appreciated this type of job eulogy upon the invention of the automobile, to bad they didn't have a bloated, taxpayer funded media outlet to write it for them. ROTFL

I'm interested as to where their outrage and vitriolic was back in the 90's when the Military went through a round of deep budget and personnel cuts during the FRP period because that was a real national tragedy.

That's one. You said, 'a lot'.

    How about sexist?

I should state . . more racist and sexist than you, that is. That should be entertaining for about 15 minutes.

This is just a total failure of a business plan or I should say a lack of one. A business that teeters on one component for survival is doomed to fail, which this one clearly has. The main revenue stream should have been used to built other components over the years, and cuts to the money sucking units should have been made long ago or changes made so they are profitable or breaking even. They've created a crater they can't climb out of and will become nuisance channel rebroadcasting reruns from the US.

I think they are going to cut to the bone, and keep their profitable stuff. Without Hockey, they'll have to concentrate on News. That means original programming will suffer, and that's too bad because some of the stuff they produce is fairly decent.

Original programming went out the window long ago. What were they still doing? Admittedly I can't recall the last time I watched the regular CBC channel. I only watch Newsworld. But jeez, remember the Beach Combers? That went world wide. Maybe you had to live out here to really appreciate it.

It's news that's also going to be chopped. That is a tragedy. Certainly beats the private networks.

What about radio - that doesn't bring them a dime. That's what I'll really miss if they make further cuts.
