Spam seems to be getting a new meaning lately.

Did they have reason to believe she was being abused? That wasn't even hinted at. The group bringing the accusation sounds like it is an Anti-Abortion group merely trying to shut down PP based upon the eventual findings that the girl was indeed being abused. A 13 year old girl being Pregnant does not mean she is being abused by default.

No the lawsuit is being brought forth by the victims mother, Cary Smith. In May 2012 Smith's then husband, and the victims step father of 7 years, Timothy Smith brought the girl in and filled the forms for her.

The girl was being abused for 6 years without the mother's knowledge but now she is suing because a perfect stranger couldn't detect it during a 30 min interview.

The lawsuit was filed in June 2014 and is still before the courts. Hardly news.

This is a link to the filing:

This is more coverage of the story from last year, albeit highly biased coverage.

So she is suing because she claims PP failed to inquire, but it seems as though someone else may have failed to inquire, for 6 Years.

Sorry, but a 13 yo pregnant girl is grounds for reporting to police, let them investigate. PP certainly dropped the ball here, likely because of pc concerns about privacy. I think the mom's lawsuit will succeed.

Yea, cause 13 year olds don't have sex. Must be abuse.

I think there is more to it, Timothy Smith was the only father she knew and filled out the forms. I have a feeling he wasn't exactly forthcoming when it came to the facts.

No, because it's the law. 13 year olds can't consent to sex unless the partner is less than 2 years older. That's the Canadian law, brought in by your buddy. The US is usually stricter. No matter what, this should have been investigated, especially when it's the stepfather bringing the girl in (red flag right there).

On the form, he listed his self as Father. I agree that a pregnant 13 year old should warrant an automatic police investigation, but I this is subject to privacy issues and laws around abortion itself.

Reporting suspected sexual abuse of children trumps privacy. They have a duty to report.

According to court documents, the girl, known as R.Z., went to the Denver clinic on May 3, 2012, with her stepfather, Timothy David Smith. Although she wrote her correct birth date on forms, the Planned Parenthood employees did not question her or report suspected sexual abuse, as required by Colorado law.

Colorado law mandates the reporting of known or suspected abuse of minors, yet Planned Parenthood made no such report, Ms. Decker said. Tragically, had any of their employees made a call to authorities the day they saw this 13-year-old girl with her abuser, as Planned Parenthood is legally obligated to do, her abuse would have ended that day.

Unfortunately there are zealots on the pro-choice side who take extreme positions as much as do the pro-life side.

    It works differently in Colorado:

In Colorado, a person who is under 15 can legally consent to have sex with someone who is no more than 4 years older.

Additionally, a person under 17 can legally consent to sex with a person who is no more than 10 years older. This is quite a liberal age difference, particularly when compared to other states. Under this law, an individual who is 24 could legally have sex with a 15 year old, provided it is consensual.

Essentially there is no minimal age of consent provided the partner is less than 4 years different, so abuse is not a given.

A 13 year old is legal to have sex with a 17 year old in Colorado

Del you're wrong on you're first post. The lawsuit was recently settled.

What's news is the organization - Alliance Defending Freedom or ADF is now lodging a complaint with the Colorado department of regulatory agencies.

DENVER Alliance Defending Freedom filed a complaint Wednesday with the Colorado Department of Regulatory Agencies on behalf of Colorado Family Action against a Rocky Mountain Planned Parenthood abortionist and another employee. According to information obtained from a recently settled civil lawsuit, the two employees failed to comply with Colorado law by not reporting the sexual abuse of a 13-year-old girl, performed an abortion on the girl without giving notice to her parents, and returned her to the custody of the sexual predator, who continued to sexually molest her.
